Allchurches Trust gives over £92,000 to a range of good causes in September

Cheques from Allchurches Trust’s latest batch of small grants are hitting doormats this week with 59 good causes receiving a share of £92,000 across the UK and Ireland.

The grants distributed each month range from £500 to £5000 and, in September, the money has gone to a variety of projects, from those aimed at improving interfaith relationships to tackling homelessness among young people and protecting heritage artefacts from theft.

Among the recipients of the grants is All Hallows Church in Bow, London. The church is building a new community space to encourage people of different faiths and backgrounds to come together. Working closely with Muslim community organisations, All Hallows will provide social activities in the new space, enabling those in the community who could be at risk of isolation to become more engaged with a wider network. The new facilities will also enable the church to further their outreach work aimed at tackling local gang culture, as well as providing space for a community café.

St Basil’s in Birmingham is using its Allchurches Trust grant to upgrade IT facilities, which will enable them to expand the services they offer to young homeless people living at the centre. The new facilities will enable the charity to deliver workshops and training programmes which focus on teaching the 16 to 25-year-olds the necessary skills to rebuild their lives.

A 15th Century alabaster panel will be protected from theft in St Wilfrid’s Church in Skipton, North Yorkshire thanks to an Allchurches Trust grant. The panel depicts a well-known scene from the Nativity and lay hidden under the floor for 300 years before its discovery in the 19th Century. It will now be protected inside a museum-standard protective steel case equipped with LED lights. The new display will prevent theft and enable the congregation and 2000 yearly church visitors to appreciate the historic artefact in all its glory.
