How to apply

Creating an application

We do not have deadlines for receiving applications; we deal with them as they come in. Every application is reviewed by our Trustees and a decision communicated within three to six months.

We encourage potential applicants to read carefully through the information on our pages before making an application to find out, before spending time on it, whether it meets our charitable aims and is likely to be considered by our trustees.

Here's what to do:

  • Check your project is eligible by reading what we fund. Remember that we normally provide funding towards capital projects and equipment, not running costs and salaries
  • Read our Grant Officer advice blogs to give you the best chance of success. There's one from Paul Playford, about what you should consider before even filling in your application form, and another from Jeremy Noles, about preparing for a grant visit
  • Take a look at some examples of the kind of projects we like to fund here
  • Read our Grants Terms and Conditions (see downloads)
  • Have a look at the Application Form by downloading the pdf version (see downloads). Your real application must be done online but by downloading a copy of the form, you’ll be able to see the sort of information required so that you can have it ready
  • Have a read of our selection of pdf resources aimed at helping you to publicise your project and your grant, should you get one. These might also help you when outlining your communications plans in your application. You could also read our blog with advice on getting your project in the press and our advice on telling the story of your project on social media.
  • Make sure you have between one and three really good photographs to upload with your application (note there is a 3MB limit per photograph). We’ll use these to publicise your grant on our website and elsewhere so we’re looking for photographs that show the special character of your organisation and the impact your project will have on people. We’d much rather have a photo of your church and your community than a photo of the kitchen, even if it’s the kitchen that needs funding!
  • Complete the online application form. You don’t have to complete it all in one go. You can save it and come back to it later. Top tip: The form will not accept any punctuation in numbers, so no commas or decimal points please!
